There is a big difference between causality and justification - we can know why something has happened and still say that it is wrong.

Obviously it is wrong when a parent abuses their child. Knowing that poverty, mental illness, bad genetics, or the parent's own history of abuse were contributing factors doesn't change that... but surely it affects our response to it?

TimTimaahynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160916.post-22108651624758155332010-06-26T11:53:15.929+10:002010-06-26T11:53:15.929+10:00Tim,
My view is that there's always hope.
Yo...Tim,

My view is that there's always hope.

You also know my thoughts on the second point. Sin can never be justified by claiming we're victims of 'circumstances', even if you believe in Dawkins view of humanity and life, this cannot allow us to justify our wrong behaviour; unless of course you don't believe in values at all. Not that it's our behaviour that leads to God's wrath, the Bible suggests that it's our rebellion against him and our refusal to be subject to his rule.

Cheers,

TrevorTrevor Cairneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10743409298855125040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160916.post-78698570087932480902010-06-26T10:37:05.025+10:002010-06-26T10:37:05.025+10:00Trevor,

But as I suggest in my post many would like to hide from this truth as well, instead of considering the ultimate hope that is offered in Christ.

Regards,

TrevorTrevor Cairneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10743409298855125040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160916.post-72583617806904312092010-06-25T15:29:12.511+10:002010-06-25T15:29:12.511+10:00Trevor,
